3 MiFi

For the past 6 month or more I’ve been using the excellent 3 Mifi device with my work 3G SIM.  It’s a super little device, so much I’ve recomended it to 5 other people who now have one (should have been on commission!).

I’ve had 3G access via a PCMCIA cards, and USB sticks, all with problems mostly constrained to the terrible connection software supplied.  With the MIFI device there’s no need for any software as it just uses a browser for admin access, and wifi for connectivity – horah!  Probably made more use of 3G connectivity more in the last month than in the last 3 years.

The device has been faultless until Friday when in a flurry of configuration for a demonstration I believe I might have managed to configure it via the Admin interface to either have NO IP address, or NO Default Gateway! stupid I know, A of me not checking, and B of the UI not error checking.

No matter what tricks I or three of my froleagues could conjure up would allow me to get an IP address I could access it via. If this happens to you find the RESET button inside the case to the left of the ON button, using a paper clip hold it pressed in for 5 seconds and it will reset.

This wont remove and hacks or unlocking you’ve done, but will set it back to the SSID and Wireless Key listed inside the case.  You will also need to set a new Admin password (don’t leave it as default Admin), and the profile for connecting to your provider (UN, PWD and APN).
